My email sends messages to other people without me knowing, does changing my password stop this?

i think i have an email virus, one friend suggested that i change my password for it not to send to the email addresses on my address book. does this method help?

My email sends messages to other people without me knowing, does changing my password stop this?
no-you have a virus or trojan doing this. you must clean it or it will continue useing your email %26amp; computer as a bot. run this free online scan in safe mode with net working. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and this free tool also. http://www.prevx.com/filenames/158743955... good luck.
Reply:Sounds like a trojan or worm infection. Simply changing your password now will be no help since the infection has already embedded itself within your system. Anything you may find in regular mode will most likely be a shell or delivery program. What you remove will be the casing used to deliver the virus.

Go into safe mode without networking and using a good anti-virus and spyware program (preferably seperate) scan your system completely and see what you find. AVG, Norton, Pandasoft are usually good for this but it will be slow and tedious so be patient.

Anit Spyware use Ada Aware, Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy, and or SuperAntiSpyware.

With this you should be able to locate and or remove the infection or at least quarantine it so it will no longer prey on your system.

When finished clean up your hard drive and registry and then do a Disk Defrag. This often times will be enough to disrupt some of the functions of an infection.

If afterwards your still having problems you may need to do a deep re-format of your hard drive using DBan and then re-install your whole OS (Operating System).

This is not a one day operation t remove these bugs so make sure you've go time to do this and spread it out over a couple days to insure a proper install and removal.

Be careful of what you download and by all means DO NOT open any e-mail attachments. Not only are they a waste of time but they clog up your hard drive with unnecessary crap and allow infections form sources you don't know. There's no way to tell who or where the infection was implemented from beforehand without a careful investigation.

Arm yourself with the latest AV and Anti Spyware programs and be sure to use a decent firewall always.
Reply:Your computer is infected and you may soon get a message from your ISP

This is what viruses and worms do..... send spam to all your email contacts.

SEE free virus scans from best:

http://www.bluecollarpc.net/virus-scans....
Reply:what email are you using? if its a web based email then I would definately change the password. Also if its a computer based email, like outlook, scan with an antivirus. http://housecall.trendmicro.com is a good free one that removes trojans very well. Anyways, good luck!
Reply:Your computer is infected. Do a full system scan with both your anti-spyware and anti-virus apps.

For further info...

Google: botnet.

Google: zombie computer.

Good luck.
Reply:No, it does not. The problem here is that you may not be the one sending the e-mails out. It could be anyone that has received e-mail from you that could be sending the spam. An e-mail header can be forged as it is just a text pre-amble from your e-mail client to the e-mail server. If one was a particular devious spam writer, one would supply someone elses e-mail address in the spam from box so that the spam writer would not be traced backed...
Reply:Most likely, you have a virus, trojan or some other infection. Your password information is likely to be transmitted to whomever is controlling the malicious program.

I would suggest running an online virus checker. Trend micro (www.trendmicro.com) has a free checker called "House Call." It would be a good place to start.
Reply:YES I WOULD CHANGE UR PASSWORD EVERY TWO WEEKS!!!! GOOD LUCK

How I can report people using my own e-mail to spam other people? Spammers used my email no me. What can I do?

Today I opened my email en I found one with my email address on it.

The message was saying buy replica watches and the website address. I don't sale this things.

Now I have this thing going on that someone is using my e-mail to spam people but I'm not doing it. I have my friends and more people who knows me with this e-mail. Any Suggestion?

How I can report people using my own e-mail to spam other people? Spammers used my email no me. What can I do?
You have no need to worry.

When anti-spam systems check an email to see if it's spam they check the content of the email, where it is coming from not the email address. Email addresses can be faked and if they blocked only email addresses it would do nothing.

Also spammers can fake the origin of the email and there is nothing you can do about it.

But any spam filter worth it's weight will look at two things content and origin (The mail server) not the email address.

How do you block the forwared addresses in your email when forwarding to other people or blind addresses?

I recieve emails from a friend that has lots of other addresses in them and dont want to forward them or show them, and want to blind the addresses I am forwared my message to others

How do you block the forwared addresses in your email when forwarding to other people or blind addresses?
My best advice is this::: Don't forward emails. I can't stand getting forwarded emails where I have to open several windows because they've been forwarded again %26amp; again. I also can't stand all of the addresses. I kindly asked my friends to do the following:

When you open up an email that has been forwarded, highlight the text in the box (left click %26amp; run your mouse over the text) and then press CTRL %26amp; C at the same time. This copies the text. Then, open up a new email, get the cursor blinking in the box %26amp; press CTRL %26amp; V and your text will appear. Then address as you'd like. It doesn't even take that long %26amp; your recipients will be glad!!!!

Adjusting the From field changes how your name appears in other peoples' incoming mail. You can also adjust the email address they will send a message to when they click Reply.

The New Yahoo! Mail (formally Yahoo! Mail Beta):

1.Click Options in the upper-right corner of your Mail page and select Mail Options.

2.From the list on the left, click Accounts.

3.Click Add or edit an account 鈥?it is toward the middle of the page.

4.In the box on the left, click Yahoo! Mail.

5.Click Edit.

6.In the From name: box, enter your name how you would like it to appear in the From: line of your outgoing messages. This is the name people will see in their Inboxes for messages from you.

7.You can leave the Reply to: field blank, so your Yahoo! Mail address is automatically the return address when others reply to you. Or, you can specify a different return address by entering it after Reply to:.

8.Click Save to put your new settings into effect.

This link should take you there.

Note: The From name field can not contain special characters like the @ symbol. And, the address in Reply to: can not exceed 40 characters.

Classic Yahoo! Mail:

At the top right of your mail page click Options, another page will open up, click General Preferences, another page will open up, under Name and Email, you can customize how your name appears on messages you send by changing the From Name: field. Reply To: specifies the return address for messages that you send. Be sure to go to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Reply:You need to go back to the Yahoo "edit my account" screen to edit how you put your name in when you registered your email account. S, go up to the top of the Yahoo page where it says "Hi, whateveryournameis" and click the arrow below it. That will take you to the edit page and you can correct the misspelling of your name. Once you have corrected it on the account page, it will show up right on Yahoo email. Good Luck.
Reply:The only thing I can think of that you can do is to go into My Account which will be at the top of the page once you have logged on; go to edit personal info. Where it says your name click on edit and it then type it in correctly. Then, there might be a code that you have to type which will be on the confirmation page type that and click save and your name problem should be solved

Does Yahoo keep a log of attempts people make to log in to their email account?

I'm suspecting that a certain someone has been checking my email and want to know if Yahoo is like AOL. AOL gives you access to a log where you can see when you've logged in, the IP address and what time the log in was made.

How can I form a group where people are not required to create an email account?
There are no free sites that offer sites for this sort of membership. you would have to buy your own domain name, and then host your own website on a server. Then you would have to setup that site to allow people to sign up without an email account.

If you mean you want to have people to e-mail you, you can start by visiting the chat rooms often and finding people you like to talk to, and exchange e-mails. You can exchange e-mails with friends in your non-online life and ask them to e-mail you. Hi I want to do email many people but do not want all their email to show. What can I do?

send it to one person, then put the rest of the e-mail addresses in the "BC" address line. Kinda like the "CC" line that stands for "carbon copy," but you will be able to see those. The "BC" means "blind copy" and you will not be able to see the addresses the e-mail was sent to.

Hi I want to do email many people but do not want all their email to show. What can I do?
When I send an email out to multiple people I put my own address in the "To:" line and list every one else's email address in the "BCC:" line. That way everyone that receives the email only sees my email address as the person that received the email.

"BCC:" stands for blind courtesy copy, and works similarly to "CC:" which stands for courtest copy. "BCC:" hides the email addresses from the recipients of your email.
Reply:Just list them as BCC in you email program

How can we email a post in a blog to multiple people?
Be careful. That kind of thing can be abused very easily, and next thing you know, email you send to people will end up in their junk/bulk mail folders, and you're blacklisted as a spammer. Any type of automatic emailing is actually a highly complex issue, with (1) anti-spam techniques like limiting the number of emails per user, and using a captcha algorithm, (2) storing outbound messages in a database and not sending them all right away, but rather putting them in a queue and sending them out at intervals, so as not to exceed the outbound email limit of your web host (see the fine print in your contract for the actual limit). (3) You'll also have to keep tabs on the total number of messages sent to each DOMAIN.... you might be under your limit but still get tagged as a spammer if all those messages went out to the SAME domain (AOL is known to do this, for example).

Generally, it is "against the law" to do something like this. The problem is, you're not going to be able to set a court date for an issue as small as this one. Most of the power you will have will be regarding Yahoo's server policies. If they clearly outline in their acceptable use policy that the usage of someone else's username and password can result in loss of account, you should report this issue. Otherwise, you're at a dead end. Yahoo will certainly not take the time to look back on logs to see when such an e-mail was sent unless they received something more compelling (a court subpoena), which you would never end up with. Your best bet is to review their account usage policy and try to fix the damage done. Don't trust people with your passwords unless you can TRUST them! If they help you set up a password change it as soon as they leave if you really do need the computer help. If someone doing your computer work is insisting on knowing your passwords or typing them in for you, you have a problem. I do a lot of house-calls for computer tech support and I ALWAYS INSIST that the user type in their own password, unless they give it to me willfully. I will physically get up from the computer and say please choose a password, instruct them how to choose one, and turn my head as they type it in.
Reply:It is identity theft. It is illegal and each computer has it's own code, the emails will show what computer it came from.

I recently advertised a car for sale and was contacted via email by a person using a "frankpappas1@yahoo.com" email address. It turns out this person tried to swindle me out of my car. Who do I report this to at Yahoo....so that his email address is shut down and reported to the apropriate authorities?

How do I report a person using a yahoo email addresss who is trying to swindle people?
If you suspect fraud, you should report this

1. the police

2. report to yahoo. got the main page and follow the contact us. I think it is a waste of time, as Yahoo does nothing.

3. if it is retail fraud then report it to the consumer association relevant for your country.

Not knowing the full details, I suspect it is a Nigerian fraud scam. Happened to me, they tried to buy my car with a forged cheque, but I would not release the car until funds had cleared into my account. I got the bank to check if the cheque was genuine before i banked it and told them that I was suspicious of the people wanting to buy my car. I also reported it to the police, where I had to give a full statement.
Reply:just email them and email them the email that was sent to you they will look into, Thanks to people like you hopefully we can all continue to help eachother stay safe. Thanks, Gweedo8
Reply:If this person was trying to use a counterfit check or similar method, you can report any information you have to the FBI.

i have already tried to change it under my settings and i made sure i pressed save.

Why does myspace require last name/email for people to send my friend requests?
yepp, sumtimes, it just doesnt seem to change, and anyways, it has nothing to do with age, u just have to change the setting, but for sum reason, it sumtimes jusst doesnt change =[

How do i get people to stop hacking into my email and facebook accounts?
Change your passwords. You should, ideally, have different passwords for each account you have - so one for your email, another one for your facebook, another one for myspace, or whatever.

The passwords should not be easy to guess (like your date of birth or favourite pets name) and bear in mind that if it's your Ex that's behind this, he'll know you very well.

The best way I've found is to flick through a dictionary and find 2 random words, not connected with each other - say Field and wheel. Then, replace characters in these two words so that you can still remember the words, but so that it's not simple to guess. For example, you can replace the letter "o" with a zero (0), you could replace a letter "L" with a 1 (one) or ! (exclamation mark) etc etc. Also use caps and lower case. So "fieldwheel" could become, for example, "fie1dWh3e!".

Hope this helps!
Reply:Best bet would be first to inform facebook and your email provider that your accounts have been compromised. They can also provide the correct steps to ensure your accounts are safe. But, you will need to change your password to your email first, and change your security questions. Mix your password up with number and letters, including capital letters, same with your facebook password.

Also, scan your computer for any backdoors and or virus, with the best free online virus scanner.

Reply:Well first step is to change ALL your passwords, and any accounts which are important have a different password for each. Spend time memorising them, then once you're sure you can remember them wipe all traces of them that are saved on your computer or written on paper. Where you go from there is beyond me though.
Reply:just delete your accounts and renew your passwords and dont let him about your new accounts etc...i had that once too so i did it this way
Reply:Delete your accounts entirely and stop worrying what people on the Internet think? Get a better password?
Reply:change your password into something that he would never ever guess. include numbers as well.

How do people get to know your email password when even they are in another continent?

I heard that some people can get your email password when they are very far. I wonder if using public cyber cafes will protect me instead of using the same computer daily. How do they get to do this? is it possible?

How do people get to know your email password when even they are in another continent?
password snatching doesn't have to be clever. e.g. put up a website that looks like it has a lot of content but you have to register first ... so you create an account with a name and password and your email.... some people use the same password for different purposes on the web, so snatcher can just see which of the passwords he has harvested also work with email. Some people also have very simple passwords that are guessable.
Reply:Actually, using public cyber cafes is the best way to assure your passwords are stollen! Since most email passwords are sent over the internet in unencyripted format they are easy to pick off.

Best advice if that is happening to you often, use an email client and a host that uses secure passwords or at least use an https (secure connection) to get webmail!

And never ever use any dictionary words or common names as a password. These can be guessed using computer models in a matter of minutes.
Reply:with some programs called keylogger they can trace every key you push on your computer.then they will send them via e-mail to the owner of the program so he/she can find out all of your passwords and the things you have typed.

But if you use some programs fore example zone alarm pro or norton firewall you can avoid your password to be stealed.

Why do people fall for this hoax email about winning lottery where else they know they did not sign up?

I am tired of all this free stuff email where else I know in this life there are no free stuff, Even salvation for humanity was paid off! But I guess its our greed that eats us up.

Why do people fall for this hoax email about winning lottery where else they know they did not sign up?
Greed. They are preying on people would want something for nothing.
Reply:I agree. The same goes for regular mail also. Week after week, i get loads of junk mail. And telephone calls are the same too. Even spamming chat clients. I have Skype, a web chat and VOIP client, and get messages all the time wanting to click links to here and there. I guess if it gives people jobs, it is good, but it is so wasteful or resources and of my time. Recently I even get calls to my cellular phone, which is highly annoying. How do these people make money? How can the general public be dumb enough to believe all this junk? It is ignorant it every way.
Reply:because they tell people that they have won which makes them think thy have so they try collect some people belive it just they are dummy i think

What happens to People Who Steal Other People's Email Accounts or What Should Happen To Them?

What happens - Nothing

What should happen - Nothing

What happens to People Who Steal Other People's Email Accounts or What Should Happen To Them?
That may depend on whose email account you steal.

In some cases there will be law enforcement involved, but only if the damages are like $5,000 or more. In other cases you could expect to receive a summons to court for a civil damages lawsuit.

But if you really grab the brass ring, you will discover how insecure Vista is, and your payroll department will be told you are dead, and your utilities will be cut off for 11 years of delinquent payments. Then after that warmup the fellow whose email account you took will get really mean, and you will never figure out what happened to your computer, or why the police want to talk to you about money-laundering, or why you cannot use any of your credit cards.

And the problem is, you never know. An innocent, sweet victim might have a friend...
Reply:Pretty much nothing happens - the person whose account hacked has to close the account.

II think it should be a corrective action series:

1. First time offence: Grounded for a week

2. Second time offence - Grounded for one month and monetary penalty

3. Third Time offence - send to a mental hospital permanently

How did Yahoo get email addresses of people I emailed from hotmail or other accounts? Privacy issue?

I didn't know when I upgraded messenger that it would invade hotmail and other email addresses I've used to offer them as potential "invites." that's scary. I don't like it, don't want it. What can I do short of deleting messenger, etc?

How did Yahoo get email addresses of people I emailed from hotmail or other accounts? Privacy issue?
when you upgraded a window specifically popped up asking you if you wanted yahoo to search and put all your email accounts onto yahoo. Its not a privacy issue as they asked you and you agreed to it. You can delete the items out of yahoo without removing yahop

Are spammers spamming other people using my name and email address?

I've just recently received some spam that were sent using my email address as the sender. Does this mean they've stolen my email address and name and are spamming others under this guise? How can I stop this? Or should I just ignore it?

Thanks!

It is highly unlikely someone is using your address for spamming. Spammers can quite easily, through programming techniques, make an email LOOK like it has come from someone's own email address when in fact it hasn't. It is just one of their tricks to get you to open the emails. But you should NEVER open spam mails.

I want to know what important Email scandals have affected important people?

Ex: Polticians, Executives, CEO's, important people in the bussiness world ect...

I want to know what important Email scandals have affected important people?
When Bill Gates of Microsoft was testifying in the federal anti-trust case, he said he didn't know about something - had never heard of it.

Using a legal right called "discovery", the feds went to Microsoft's corporate offices and said they wanted access to their computer network - including the files containing old e-mails. They then executed a "find"command on that topic and found where Gates had received a email on that topic and had responded to it. In court, his response to this news was "I receive so many emails how would I remember them all?"

Back in the 1980's when Gates and Microsoft were fighting IBM over the microcomputer operating system, people often referred to Microsoft %26amp; Gates as if they were heros from Star Wars and fighting the evil empire (IBM). But when Gates testified in court, he looked very stupid for not only saying he didn't know about the topic - but also for not knowing the feds would search thru all of his emails.

I used to work for a very large state government agency in the role of a computer security officer (keep the data %26amp; network safe). Different articles I was reading said the biggest liability to a business from e-mails, was the business managers did not realize the risks they were leaving themself open to. For example, if something was printed on a letter which had the company letterhead on it and it was mailed out, people would be very careful with what they said. And if atttorneys or the federal governement sent someone in to do discovery, well let them - could they look at every copy of every letter by hand? No way. They would be unable to pay the cost of having people search thru more than 10% (? a guess) of the letters written.

But in e-mails, people often talk like they are at a bar. Not only do they say things that they would not want as part of the permanent record, but they also often use derogratory terms when referring to people they do not like. To make matters worse, when these emails are sent there is legal proof of who saw the email and who wrote it. Prior to emails, a business manager could just say "I didn't see the letter."

Another issue - when is the email deleted? Say a friend sends you a email, copies your teacher, and bad mouths someone at school - using a negative, politically incorrect term. You read it and delete it. The person who sent it to you deletes it. Is it gone? Is there any record of that email? It all depends on how the computers were connected.

Really what happened was your friend sent the email from their computer. It went to the server at their network - which then copied the email and sent it to your network's server and the network server used by your teacher. Both servers kept a copy of the emails before they sent them to you and your teacher. How long this copy is kept - depends on the retention period defined by the network engineer. (The federal government has an agreement with all Internet service providers to keep a copy of all emails for a minimum period of time so federal agents and local police investigators may have access to them. )

Many businesses, for business recovery purposes - automatically make copies of all emails sent over their network - and then sends those copies to an underground vault in case something destroys the building where the main computer is located. This is so they can use those copies to rebuild the computer network and its files.

Another problem is your teacher - having seen the "bad words" your friend wrote, the teacher may be legally responsible for reporting the email to authorities. There is now legal proof that the teacher saw it - and the date %26amp; time they saw it.

I remember one case cited in one of the articles was a woman who was suing her former employer for sexual harrassment coming from the company's CEO. The CEO said he didn't do anything. Her attorneys found a email from the CEO to the head of personnel which said "fire the big-t*t b****ch". Shown this evidence, the company paid the woman to settle the lawsuit and then fired the CEO (for being stupid enough to put it in writing?) .

It has gotten to the point, that many companies when provided with a court order which requires them to allow discovers to access their network, will just settle the case. The expense of providing backup copies of all those files (they are legally liable if they accidently leave any copies out of the info provided to the discovers) is starting to hurt the companies being sued. Companies have started asking the courts and legislatures to limit the amount of expense or the length of time for which they must provide files to a reasonable limit. Problem is, they cannot agree on what a reasonable limit is (60 days, 1 year)?
Reply:Don't have the article anymore. They are at least 2-3 years old.

There is an attorney in CA that writes a weekly article on issues related to computers. If I can find one of his emails (small chance), I'll send it to you. Report Abuse

If an IP can not be stolen, then what is it people do with your email address to get info on you?

What does giving an email address to the wrong person do at worst scenerio and What do I do to fix it?

If an IP can not be stolen, then what is it people do with your email address to get info on you?
At worst? Probably nothing more then they send you email you don't want.

They might be able to find out more details about who you are based on finding other references to your email address on the Internet (e.g. via a search engine)
Reply:Ip addresses can be stolen. It's called spoofing.

Here is how it works:

A packet (data sent over the Internet) has a source and destination ip. You can change both values. Here is an illustration: Report Abuse

Reply:You (10.0.0.2) send a message to server (10.0.0.3) with a source ip of (10.0.0.3). The server will then send the data that was requested, ie web page, to 10.0.0.3 not you. Report Abuse

Reply:If 10.0.0.3 does exist then the computer will have no idea what is going on and send a reset packet saying it didn't ask for it and stop sending it packets. Now, even though 10.0.0.3 said it didn't ask for it, the server has 10.0.0.3 in it's logs not 10.0.0.2. Report Abuse

Reply:This means that you can get any data but you can preform an attack that frames someone. If you could somehow "hack" 10.0.0.3, then you could relay the data back to you and it would be fairly untraceable and if you got caught all records would lead to 10.0.0.3. Report Abuse

Reply:Their isn't much you can do with emails. You can see the destination but most of the time, for common users, the ip address is the server that you use, ie yahoo.com, aol.com, etc.

Have you heard of people stealing and using other's email addresses to send emails?

I have a hotmail account and while searching through my account, I found some emails that was sent from my hotmail email address to my hotmail address- basically, appearing to be sent from me to me. I am sure I didn't send these emails but I don't understand how this could happen. Are there instances of people email addresses and accounts being stolen and used? This person must have gotten my password or something? Are there examples?

Have you heard of people stealing and using other's email addresses to send emails?
These come from people who have the addresses sent to them by other's infected machines. If your name is in the address book of such a machine it is taken and used as the from and to address in order to beat your mail security. They are sent through servers with unsecured smtp receiving ports, and they are known as an open mail relay. Nothing to worry about too much, everyone gets them from time to time.
Reply:If it's not sent by mistake then %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

This is a great problem some times, you can call this "hijacking" sometimes people send emails to check various things. Its not about they sending email from 1 to another. Its what they can steal. I know it sounds all weird but some one out there maybe an experienced computer user is trying to gain something.

Be aware of your bank cards. DO YOU DO ONLINE SHOPPING ?.. what i can say is be more vigilant. Its better to prevent it than let it happen so my advise is :

(1) HAVE SPECIFIC PASSWORDS SET UP ON LAPTOP OR PC

(2) DON'T WRITE YOUR PASSWORDS DOWN ANY WHERE

(3) CHECK YOUR EMAILS ON A REGULAR BASIS

(4) TO GET SPECIAL SOFTWARE THAT ALERTS YOU TO SOME FRAUD ONLINE GOING ON.

Hope this has been valid information and helped you in some ways hope all goes well..........

How to send email to more than thousands of people at a time?

Iam having a online product and I want to market it through email. So I want to send emails to many people(1 million) at a time.Is there any way.please suggest.

How to send email to more than thousands of people at a time?
If you do it legitimately, you'd have to buy lists or go through a email marketing company. You're required to list all your contact information, and provide people with a way to unsubscribe from your future emails and keep a list of everyone who's unsubscribed.

If you want to spam millions of people then you'd be breaking US law, your emails will end up mostly unread in people's spam folders and you'd be a jerk.

You can't upload with HTML - HTML runs in the browser - uploading happens on the server. (And HTML is content, not programming, which is what uploading needs.)

What's the absolute best way an email user can use to get people to send email?

A) buy a gun

B) explain how good it is to be able to communicate freely and (almost) immediately. Explain that you will be able to send them photos. Explain that they can use it as an alternative to writing letters - or postcards. Its a great way to keep in touch without the hassle and expense of long phone calls and the waiting involved in regular postal mail.

C) wave the gun around threateningly.

What's the absolute best way an email user can use to get people to send email?

Maybe you should give them a reason to want to email you. I don't know in what context you are wanting more email... work, personal, ect... %26amp; without that I recommend either option A or C from above

Putting your email address onto as many sites %26amp; chat rooms as possible... you'll get lots of email from "hot chicks", miraculous wonder products you can't live w/out, %26amp; all the folks that bug me constantly trying to give me lottery winnings %26amp; beneficiary payouts.

How can people playback my Flip Video that I email them?

I can play back flip video on my machine, but when I email them to people they cant play them? Is there a program they need to be able to view them?

How can people playback my Flip Video that I email them?
A special codec is needed to play flip video files called the 3ivx codec.

Rather than having all the people you share your flip video install the codec try using a video sharing application like StashBox. You upload the video to their servers and use their software to privately share the video. The video will stream from StashSpace's servers making it faster for your friends to view the video and making it so they do not need to install the codec.

I have a flip mino and use the StashSpace service and find that it works great. Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com or give them a call.

When sending email: Why do people CC people all the time?

Is it necessary and does it speed up or slow things down?

What's your though on this.

When sending email: Why do people CC people all the time?
Well, for one, they don't carbon copy ALL THE TIME...

But you are right... They do it way too often.

Many already told you it is necessary if for business, but it surely is NOT.

Often cc is indeed used to cover oneselves. However, sometimes people just do it because everyone in the cc just need to be notified, but not addressed themselves...

Otherwise they would be normal recipients. Carbon copy was intended to let recipients know to whom the email was already copied. As to prevent the recipient to send another email to those people already included in the carbon copy of the original email.

The second version of CC, the BCC was invented for a completely different reason.

This was to send one email to multiple people at once, without the recipients knowing it was send to others as well.

Off course way too many people use and abuse these two tools of emailing way too often.

Ow, and YES, it does slow things down...

Not the initial emailing itself. It will still be equally fast if send to one or multiple. BUT, many people will be receiving cc's that have absolutely no value to them, but the sender just cc'ed them anyways... (It's only a click or two... usually)

Reading through all the cc's before getting to your actual emails does slow people down... Not to mention the replies the sender will receive if some or many of the recipients don't receive the email or cc. Either mailbox full, address invalid, etc...

If you only emailed the intended person(s) you have less chances to receiving failure notices. If you also cc'ed people... Chances get bigger...

(I have send emails with CC and BCC and normal ones by just sending to recipients only.. I perfer to forget about cc and bcc. I only cc myself nowadays. For instance sending emails from a schoolaccount to a professor, I usually include a cc to my private account. The schoolaccount is far more limited in space then my private one and I do like to keep proof of sending it. Professors often claim you didn't... Well, not with me anymore... I guess this would also work for company-accounts...)

Hope this helps a little..
Reply:If its a topic that involves multiple people, I don't see a problem with it. Shouldn't make recieving or sending noticeably slower.

I was once part of an organization where they would type in EVERY members name into the CC, and it would be a general announcement. Fine. The only problem is when it would become person or small group things (scheduling a side meeting or asking one person something else) and they would "reply all" and fill up everyones email accounts with things they don't need to read.
Reply:Usually to see if others interested in the subject can chip in. I do it for school, especially when working on projects. I'll send an email to John asking about project that involves Jane, Joan, and Jack. Those three a CC-ed even though the question goes directly to John...that way everyone can see that we're working on whatever problem there is or if possibly they have a solution.
Reply:Carbon Copy to other people
Reply:Here is a good example of when to use CC.

I am a receptionist for a law firm that is in a very large building that has security. When someone makes an appointment with one of our lawyers, the secretary CC's me to let me know the names of the people coming so I can notify security and so I can reserve a conference room. It saves time by cutting out the email the secretary would have to send me asking to reserve a conference room and add visitors to the visitors list.

Another example is when I need to give a message to one of the lawyers, I send them an email and cc their secretary. The secretary knows the message is not for them but can be up to date on what is going on.
Reply:"CC" is a fancy way of "Covering your Own Ceaster"

That way...others know what was sent. CYA

Hope this helps...

Please check out my question about the odd item on eBay. =)
Reply:The point of CC (Carbon Copy) is to include others that may have some interest in your message, in the loop, though they are NOT the "main" recipient of the message.

Often in business, you would "cc" the recipient's boss or another person who may have interests in your message. You "cc" THEM, because the recipient will see to whom you copied %26amp; those that were copied will know they were "copied" (versus thinking that THEY must act on the message). It's also a form of office etiquette.

On the personal side, it's not really necessary to CC anyone, but you can!

You may, however, wish to BC (Blind Copy) to someone! The "Blind Copy" recipient remains unknown to the "main" recipient and "cc" receivers.
Reply:my thought is that they are stupid???
Reply:i dont know why thay do it! its pointless to me.
Reply:CC doesn't slow down things. It's a good way of letting others know about what's going on without asking them directly to do something
Reply:To make sure you get on top of what your doing and not slack.....so they send it to various people so they will to have a copy that they actually let you know about it.
Reply:CC means 'carbon copy' ... if you 'cc' many people you are just sending the exact same message to several different people ... it's faster, but unless this is the way you always write to these people and they all have the same 'cc' list when they write back, it's not very 'personal' ... and even when you have a good 'cc' group I think it's only proper to send an individual emal occasionally.
Reply:in business, it is necessary alot. no, does not slow anything down
Reply:It doesn't really slow anything down. The point of a CC is to inform someone of an email that isn't necessarily directed to them. For example, at my work if I have a question about something, I know I am supposed to contact Lonna. However, I know that the answer to my question is something that Jenn and Rhonda should know. So I send the question to Lonna, and CC Jenn and Rhonda on it so that they are aware of what's going on but know that I am not asking them the question. Then when Lonna answers, she knows to CC them as well (keep them informed).
Reply:Unless there is a 5MB attachment, it doesn't matter too much. They think that you are involved in the conversation, and want to let you in on it.
Reply:if it's for work, it's necessary, espeicially if you mention the cc'd person's name or say you copy in your boss for back-up.

cc-ing someone is really to CYA .. cover your A**
Reply:You are supposed to use the CC feature when you want some one to receive a copy of the mail but the mail is not directly written for the person, it has many practical business applications and not so much for personal use, except when you want to document and prove sending the information to the person through a third party

No it doesn't slow the email down
Reply:I run a prophecy site in which Christians with the gift of prophecy write prophecies( messages from God) to people that write in an ask for a prophecy. All of the people that do prophecies on the site cc the prophecies they do for the other people to me. That way I get to read every message that is going out to the public. Sometimes I might have something to add to what they said and I write to the person direct.

You have some very good answers there above mine so you should be clued up, and yes it does not slow an email down.
Reply:CC is a way for people to make themselves feel important.

How do I send an email to a large list of people without displaying the recipient's adresses?

I want to send out a mass email to 87 different people, but for privacy purposes I would like to combine all of their addresses into one address so that all 87 do not show up when they open it. I tried making a category in my email and sending it that way, but all of the addresses show up.

How do I send an email to a large list of people without displaying the recipient's adresses?
Put your own address on TO and the category name on Bcc.
Reply:I've heard of something called the BBC, or BCC...

It's a blind copy. It should work, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Sorry. Wish I could help more.

Good luck. =]
Reply:Address the E-mail to ""Yourself""

From: Yourself......eg. Njeansss21@yahoo.com

To: Yourself....,,,,,,eg. Njeansss21@yahoo.com

Then.....Put the "87 Different Addresses under ' the 'BCC' which is the Blind Copy.

I do it all of the time.

As you said, for privacy reasons because I hate it when someone sends things to a whole group of folks and there is your name and E-mail Address for everyone else to see......

I do believe that there are other E-mail Providers (that you "PAY" for that have a more sophisticated way of doing it in which no ones names shows at all).

Remember, this one is "FREE"

It's really cool and it works for me. This way the only address that everyone is seeing is mine.

Hope that this helps....
Reply:Use the "add BCC" option (blind carbon copy).

How many people are using the new Yahoo email system?

Are you using the new email system? Or you prefer the old one?

How many people are using the new Yahoo email system?
The old one. The new one is really slow and untrustful. If you have the new one, switch it back. We should let Yahoo! know what its users need.
Reply:I tried it a few times and then went back to the original.
Reply:Been using it for a while now. I love it.
Reply:I prefer old one because it's faster, but the new one looks nice. I rather take functional over pretty interface.
Reply:I used it for like 2 days, but I didn't like it. I switched back to the old yahoomail. its easy and its simple.
Reply:I tried it and then switched back to the original too.
Reply:The new one is a lot better. But GMail is what I like the best. Yahoo still has a love affair with spammers.
Reply:I have been using it for a while. There are a few glitches, but they are slowly working them out.
Reply:i've been using it, but it has some problems.

1) It slows the system down if you don't have a lot of RAM.

2) If you get a slew of small Attachments, some of them don't show up.

3) The scrolling has a problem where it's not very smooth.

Otherwise, it is not too bad. Once they get the bugs out, it should be much better.
Reply:I prefer the old, classic interface. It loads much faster than the new interface. Though the new interface has some new features, those don't seem to be useful. The new interface may be useful for a broadband user, but not for a dial-up user.
Reply:Heck no I think it's freaking horrible! I hate the interface, they should just try and keep it simple, gives me a headache, they are just trying to get too crazy with it. I prefer simple e-mail interface not all fancy and all sorts of crap around.
Reply:Have been made to since they now wont let me acces the pop3 !

Cant bloody send now.. Muppets
Reply:I have the new one. Its easier to see all my emails w/o having to keep clicking next all the time.

How come you're not allowed to email the mean people who have you blocked?

You can email me, instead.

How come you're not allowed to email the mean people who have you blocked?
I understand your plight. If only they would accept the penis pic emails I wish to send them then things would work themselves out and all parties involved would know it was just a big misunderstanding. I'm sure of it!

What do you think about these people who declare you must email them before adding BUT?

They feel it's ok to add you without an email.

I onlii do that not cuz i feel im a celebrity or wateva - nothin like that - im jus beiin super careful about who i re add %26amp;%26amp; stuff - u noe??

I'll add ppl without email because they don't ask me to send them an email - so why wud I? If they cared so much like me they would ask ppl to email them - but they obv dont so i dont really botha ...

If that made sense lmaoo

Reply:I think it's funny when people try to be so forceful in their profiles. I especially like the "If you add me without my permission, I'll block you" threats. Ooooooo. "Skeery"!!

I don't add people. If someone wants to add me, that's fine, but I usually (not always) end up deleting them because I don't like seeing their Q%26amp;As when I open Y!A. One guy that added me ended up being a satanist. While I'm open to everyone, he really freaked me out with his completely insane questions.

But, some people create an entire life here, so I can understand.
Reply:I haven't had that happen to me - I have a couple of contacts who ask for an email before adding them and they did actually email me first and ask if they could add me - it wouldn't bother me if they just added me they are just being cautious cos of all the violations :-)
Reply:How many accounts have you had?

I have had seven. Trolls got my six previous accounts suspended.

When you have trolls coming after you a few times, you will understand why people do that!
Reply:They are trolls who complain about being trolled when in fact they're the ones who continually troll other people....which is why they get reported and suspended so many times.

How do I hide who I sent an email to from the rest of the people who received the same email?

I am trying to send out mass email and I do not want those who get the email to see who else also go it. I know there is a way to do this, but I just don't know how. Please help. Thanks.

How do I hide who I sent an email to from the rest of the people who received the same email?
But the person whose email address you want to hide in the BCC: Field

find work

How can I email a number of people using aol but hide the list of addresses so the only the person who gets it

I want to send out about 50 emails but dont want my customers to see a list of 50 email addresses. Is there a way to do this with AOL? Appreciate the help...

How can I email a number of people using aol but hide the list of addresses so the only the person who gets it
Put all the addresses in the BCC field. Put your address in the from and to fields.
Reply:don't put all the addresses on one line. use courtesy copies (cc copy )for the Remaining 49 addresses. that way no one will see any of the other addresses
Reply:Well, you could use the BCC option and blind carbon copy them, but technically they will probably be able to see it in the full headers if they know how to view those.

Most AOL users would not know to look at the headers.

Also, I believe you may have more options if you use AOL's Communicator email program. Just search AOL Communicator in AOL and you'll find it.
Reply:Enter the addresses of the people in the Bcc field when you compose your email.
Reply:Here is your answer: This is from AOL e mail settings:

Send a Blind Carbon Copy E-mail to Multiple Recipients

Send blind carbon copies when you do not want the primary or carbon copy recipients to know that you have sent the e-mail to anyone else.

To send a blind copy e-mail to multiple recipients:

1. On the AOL toolbar, click the Write icon.

2. In the Send To: box, type the screen names or e-mail addresses of the primary recipients.

3. In the Copy To: box, type the screen names or e-mail addresses of the recipients of blind copies in parentheses, for example, (aoluser1, aoluser2, name@companyname.com).

Note: Recipients of blind copies will not see the names of others who received blind copies.

4. In the Subject: box, type a subject line for your e-mail.

5. Type your message in the large message box.

6. Click the Send Now or Send Later button.

Note: As the sender of the e-mail, you will always see the addresses of each recipient (even those who received blind copies). The addresses will show whether you look in your AOL庐 mailbox, in the folders saved on your computer, or if one of the recipients sends a copy of the e-mail back to you.
Reply:I don't use AOL, but check if there is a BCC or "Blind Carbon Copy" option when you send the email. List all the addresses in that field.
Reply:Should be able to blind carbon copy the recipients, bcc.
Reply:I don't know about AOL, but real email clients will allow you to setup Groups. Which does not show the individual email address when sent.

Look up configuring groups of your contacts.

good luck!
Reply:Does AOL have a BCC line? if so use that it's called blind carbon copy. Send it to yourself as the main recipiant and BCC everyone else
Reply:Hi,

I am not that familiar with aol but look for an option called "bcc" this is a blind carbon copy and everyone will see the same e-mail but nobody will see eachothers e-mail addresses.
Reply:use the BCC option and blind carbon copy

Can you send mail to people that put their email on myspace?

If i get a persons email from myspace, and send them a commercial message becuase it is relevant to them, if you then follow all the can-spam guidelines, is this breaking the law and considered spam, becuase the person has not opted-in to recieve email... although they have becuase they have put their email on display for people to contact them... otherwise why put your email on a site?... regards.

Can you send mail to people that put their email on myspace?
Tim is incorrect. It doesn't matter if you spend them 1 email a week or 5 email a week, it is SPAM. Spam by definition is Unsolicited Mail, which means the person did not request or "Opt In" to be communicated.

It is against the law to send emails to a person who has not opted in to be contacted. The person is well within their rights to report you to the regulatory body, and you can and will be fined. There is on the other hand "implied consent", which is what you have for example, when you send a party invitation to a bunch of friends.

Many people put their email address up on their personal sites for many reasons, not 1 of which is for you to spam them.
Reply:IF they have clearly posted there email you can if they do not want contact they would toss you into there spam folder. be aware some are phishing for you email too. if you send an email you an open yourself up for spam too. so just be aware and use an account setup for bulk mailing and strong filters so you don't get the same. my personal outlook

is one email is not a spam if you hit them every day for a week then it's spam.
