If the internal mail system is used, meaning a user clicks on the mail link provided in a profile, you have no way of knowing where the mail is sent from because Yahoo doesn't reveal your actual mail address nor the sender's address when forwarding the mail to you.

If you get a mail the "normal" way, look at the part after the @ sign, it reveals the country domain. A list of country domains may be found here:

I just sent a test email to myself and then BCC to 1@yahoo.com, 2@yahoo.com, and so on to 12 and it worked completely fine I think, so I think it is a problem with how you sent it (I think you can send it up to 100 people, so 12 should work!)

Reply:I'm glad to see you using the BCC. Most of my friends don't.....Headache! You might try a couple of things because I don't believe 22 addresses would stress yahoo mail. First - If this is a list you will reuse, put the names in your Address book and use AUTO Address in BCC. Second - If you have to place the addresses in one at a time --- "bad".....be sure to place commas behind every address. I really don't understand the problem you are having because I have sent multiple addresses in BCC with no problem.

Don't write a pure HTML email, use a multipart MIME mail instead. This allows you to include multiple "body" parts to the email in different formats (typically one HTML and one plain text). Viewers then get the "best" format that their software supports.

If you were getting email before then I would check your spam folder and see if for some reason they are going in there. It could be a glitch on yahoo's part.

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Java script to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. View the full headers of the e-mail. The IP address that the message came from will be in there.

Where exactly it will show up depends on the mail client you're using (Yahoo mail, Outlook, etc.) so there really isn't a hard-and-fast rule about what to look for. A good rule of thumb is to look for words like "from" and "originating." For example, if you see the phrase "Originatng IP" in the headers, that's probably it.

You must have a virus on your computer or the one who is using your account is using your email to send out multiple emails to friends and other unknown people. Easiest solution is to tell your friends to block your email or you delete your email. Any other way would just be too much of a hassle.

I am organizing my high school reunion and have email addresses for 120 members of our class. I want to send them announcements using BCC (as some members want to remain private) but I'm worried about ISPs confusing my message for spam. Any suggestions? One person recommends breaking the list up in chunks, but how many can be in a chunk before it gets filtered?

I've sent out a few mailers over the past year that had around the same number of recipients (family/friend updates and whatnot)... I just sent out in batches of only 10 to 15. I don't know what the limit is for an ISP, but when I did it this way I didn't seem to have a problem.

Also, I think you'll only really have to worry about people who are receiving the message at their work address. Those systems seem to be the ones that are more inclined to bump a message because of multiple recipients in the TO section of the message.

Reply:Either you can set-up Read/receipt for all your out going emails from your account (but I am unsure if BCC read/receipt set-up can be done). This updates you who all have received your email %26amp; who haven't.

What you are suggesting is so far-fetched it's almost laughable, except that I think you are serious about this. But I'm puzzled as to how important you are - world-wide - that a hacker would need to get YOUR password out of all the millions that are floating around?

While things like latency and traffic use can be determined by where the user is physically located, access to the internet, or to your 'email' is the same anywhere on Earth.

A 'hacker' does not need to be anywhere near you to obtain information. And that is what someone who steals your password would be, a "hacker."

However, there is another term that is used when regarding stolen computer related information. These people are called "Phreakers." To "phreak" means to physically obtain computer information in real life. For example, if two people enter a public library, one person distracts the desk clerk away from the desk, while the other gets onto the computer to obtain whatever information.

The odds of having your email password abused by either a 'hacker' or a 'phreaker' are considerably slim, but it's still possible.

To answer your question in short, yes it can be done.

If you have proper computer security at home, then using a public computer will make no difference, if your email is web based like Yahoo or Hotmail.

Reply:As the others have pointed out, it would be quite a futile task trying to get a list together of everyone who already owns a PC.

Personally I think you should be putting your money and energy into marketing yourself a different way. Advertise locally - spend money on newspaper adverts, flyers and shop posters. Market yourself to *everyone* don't limit yourself by cutting out the majority (lets face it *most* people have a computer nowadays).

You should be aiming to convince computer owners to upgrade. For example, I built my own machine and I know its good, but its 2 years old now and is starting to lag a bit. I see adverts on the TV for companies that I genuinely *hate*, such as PC World and Dell, but their marketing campaigns are so strong that by the end of the advert I am actually sat there considering buying one of their machines. Subconsciously I know it will fall apart in a year and its already overpriced, but I *still* find it attractive because its being marketed well.

In a nutshell, advertise advertise advertise, don't limit yourself.

CC is carbon copy and is exactly the same as TO. The only difference is the "status" of the message. CC indicates that you are getting a copy but are not the primary addressee. For example use TO for a company and CC for the Better Business Bureau when sending a complaint to a company.

Have you ever gotten a piece of email where you weren't listed as a recipient? Your email address wasn't present on either the "To:" line or the "Cc:" (Carbon Copy) line, but somehow you got it anyway. What you didn't see was what's called the "Blind Carbon Copy" line, or "Bcc:", which allows the sender to specify a list of people to get the message, without their name appearing on it.

if you have webmail and the ability to make folder, make subfolders with peoples name on it so received mail thats being handled goes into their folder.

Reply:The only way I think you can do this is to set up a server at one location and have that networked on the Internet. Then use Microsoft outlook to track emails. Outlook lets you see when, who, and what was responded to. Moreover, depending on your functionality, I would use Word as the main document were you can track changes then send them to other users. Can be done, sure, but at the receiving end, if they are using 'text only' for their emails then any images you had embedded in the email will become attachements as far as I know.

I just usually attach things, works just fine and everyone gets the same thing provided they have a viewer for whatever format you plonk for. For instance, if you make it in MS Word and I don't have that then I can't see your flyer.

A faily standard way of doing this is to create a PDF document as the PDF viewer is free to download. There are free PDF creators too - but you might find some features will only be available in a paid version of the free PDF creator.

Do you hate pretentious people who throw quotes around in their email signatures and Facebook pages?

I'm not talking about funny quotes from people they know, I'm talking about pretentious quotes from authors and academics. AAAARRRGH, I used to remember so many people who put them in their email signatures in college! IT'S ANNOYING! I form a bad opinion of anyone who throws them around, either in person or on their web pages, blogs or Facebook! I sometimes read them and usually find them very obvious, snide or baffling.

I'm assuming you sent the email by going onto their profile and clicking "Email X" (X represents whatever their name on here is). Doing this is fine, it works, but there is no proof of the email you've sent. It sends through Y!A and as such will not appear in your ordinary inbox and there is no Y!A inbox. This irritates me as I sometimes like to re-read an email I've sent somebody but can't if I've had to send it through Y!A.

Reply:Sounds like a trojan or worm infection. Simply changing your password now will be no help since the infection has already embedded itself within your system. Anything you may find in regular mode will most likely be a shell or delivery program. What you remove will be the casing used to deliver the virus.

Go into safe mode without networking and using a good anti-virus and spyware program (preferably seperate) scan your system completely and see what you find. AVG, Norton, Pandasoft are usually good for this but it will be slow and tedious so be patient.

Anit Spyware use Ada Aware, Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy, and or SuperAntiSpyware.

With this you should be able to locate and or remove the infection or at least quarantine it so it will no longer prey on your system.

When finished clean up your hard drive and registry and then do a Disk Defrag. This often times will be enough to disrupt some of the functions of an infection.

If afterwards your still having problems you may need to do a deep re-format of your hard drive using DBan and then re-install your whole OS (Operating System).

This is not a one day operation t remove these bugs so make sure you've go time to do this and spread it out over a couple days to insure a proper install and removal.

Be careful of what you download and by all means DO NOT open any e-mail attachments. Not only are they a waste of time but they clog up your hard drive with unnecessary crap and allow infections form sources you don't know. There's no way to tell who or where the infection was implemented from beforehand without a careful investigation.

Arm yourself with the latest AV and Anti Spyware programs and be sure to use a decent firewall always.

Reply:No, it does not. The problem here is that you may not be the one sending the e-mails out. It could be anyone that has received e-mail from you that could be sending the spam. An e-mail header can be forged as it is just a text pre-amble from your e-mail client to the e-mail server. If one was a particular devious spam writer, one would supply someone elses e-mail address in the spam from box so that the spam writer would not be traced backed...

You have no need to worry.

When anti-spam systems check an email to see if it's spam they check the content of the email,where it is coming from not the email address. Email addresses can be faked and if they blocked only email addresses it would do nothing.

Also spammers can fake the origin of the email and there is nothing you can do about it.

But any spam filter worth it's weight will look at two things content and origin (The mail server) not the email address.

My best advice is this::: Don't forward emails. I can't stand getting forwarded emails where I have to open several windows because they've been forwarded again %26amp; again. I also can't stand all of the addresses. I kindly asked my friends to do the following:

Be careful. That kind of thing can be abused very easily, and next thing you know, email you send to people will end up in their junk/bulk mail folders, and you're blacklisted as a spammer. Any type of automatic emailing is actually a highly complex issue, with (1) anti-spam techniques like limiting the number of emails per user, and using a captcha algorithm, (2) storing outbound messages in a database and not sending them all right away, but rather putting them in a queue and sending them out at intervals, so as not to exceed the outbound email limit of your web host (see the fine print in your contract for the actual limit). (3) You'll also have to keep tabs on the total number of messages sent to each DOMAIN.... you might be under your limit but still get tagged as a spammer if all those messages went out to the SAME domain (AOL is known to do this, for example).

Generally, it is "against the law" to do something like this. The problem is, you're not going to be able to set a court date for an issue as small as this one. Most of the power you will have will be regarding Yahoo's server policies. If they clearly outline in their acceptable use policy that the usage of someone else's username and password can result in loss of account, you should report this issue. Otherwise, you're at a dead end. Yahoo will certainly not take the time to look back on logs to see when such an e-mail was sent unless they received something more compelling (a court subpoena), which you would never end up with. Your best bet is to review their account usage policy and try to fix the damage done. Don't trust people with your passwords unless you can TRUST them! If they help you set up a password change it as soon as they leave if you really do need the computer help. If someone doing your computer work is insisting on knowing your passwords or typing them in for you, you have a problem. I do a lot of house-calls for computer tech support and I ALWAYS INSIST that the user type in their own password, unless they give it to me willfully. I will physically get up from the computer and say please choose a password, instruct them how to choose one, and turn my head as they type it in.

2. report to yahoo. got the main page and follow the contact us. I think it is a waste of time, as Yahoo does nothing.

3. if it is retail fraud then report it to the consumer association relevant for your country.

Not knowing the full details, I suspect it is a Nigerian fraud scam. Happened to me, they tried to buy my car with a forged cheque, but I would not release the car until funds had cleared into my account. I got the bank to check if the cheque was genuine before i banked it and told them that I was suspicious of the people wanting to buy my car. I also reported it to the police, where I had to give a full statement.

Change your passwords. You should, ideally, have different passwords for each account you have - so one for your email, another one for your facebook, another one for myspace, or whatever.

The passwords should not be easy to guess (like your date of birth or favourite pets name) and bear in mind that if it's your Ex that's behind this, he'll know you very well.

The best way I've found is to flick through a dictionary and find 2 random words, not connected with each other - say Field and wheel. Then, replace characters in these two words so that you can still remember the words, but so that it's not simple to guess. For example, you can replace the letter "o" with a zero (0), you could replace a letter "L" with a 1 (one) or ! (exclamation mark) etc etc. Also use caps and lower case. So "fieldwheel" could become, for example, "fie1dWh3e!".

Reply:Best bet would be first to inform facebook and your email provider that your accounts have been compromised. They can also provide the correct steps to ensure your accounts are safe. But, you will need to change your password to your email first, and change your security questions. Mix your password up with number and letters, including capital letters, same with your facebook password.

Also, scan your computer for any backdoors and or virus, with the best free online virus scanner.

Reply:Well first step is to change ALL your passwords, and any accounts which are important have a different password for each. Spend time memorising them, then once you're sure you can remember them wipe all traces of them that are saved on your computer or written on paper. Where you go from there is beyond me though.

password snatching doesn't have to be clever. e.g. put up a website that looks like it has a lot of content but you have to register first ... so you create an account with a name and password and your email.... some people use the same password for different purposes on the web, so snatcher can just see which of the passwords he has harvested also work with email. Some people also have very simple passwords that are guessable.
Reply:Actually, using public cyber cafes is the best way to assure your passwords are stollen! Since most email passwords are sent over the internet in unencyripted format they are easy to pick off.

Best advice if that is happening to you often, use an email client and a host that uses secure passwords or at least use an https (secure connection) to get webmail!

Reply:I agree. The same goes for regular mail also. Week after week, i get loads of junk mail. And telephone calls are the same too. Even spamming chat clients. I have Skype, a web chat and VOIP client, and get messages all the time wanting to click links to here and there. I guess if it gives people jobs, it is good, but it is so wasteful or resources and of my time. Recently I even get calls to my cellular phone, which is highly annoying. when you upgraded a window specifically popped up asking you if you wanted yahoo to search and put all your email accounts onto yahoo. Its not a privacy issue as they asked you and you agreed to it. You can delete the items out of yahoo without removing yahop

Mail - options - general preferences - from name - type the desired name - click save.
Reply:All you have to do is log into your e-mail. In the right top hand corner there is a spot marked:

OPTIONS

Click on it.

Then Click on the spot that is marked:

General Preferences

This will put you at an area where you can change the name %26amp; etc. Be sure top save it once you are done w/ the changes!! Good Luck! It's SUPER Easy!!
