How do you keep people from being able to hack your password to your email?

I have a friend that lives with me and has been able to use some sort of hacker program and access my yahoo accounts and messengers. I want to know what I need to do in order to keep this from happening?

The most likely way he found out your password was from your computer %26amp; if you haven't changed it, he is still using your password from his computer.





If you have changed the password %26amp; he is still accessing your account, then there's a keylogger on your computer. That's a program that records every keystroke %26amp; sends it to his computer. Anyway, I was just kidding. Just tell him that not to crack your password or else you will not let him to use your PC. Make sure you PC has an updated anti-virus software.

Reply:Change your password to a strong one . A strong password MUST have at least 10 characters, using upper and lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation marks. Do not use any real words, especially easy-to- guess words like love, password, or the name of your husband!





Your secret question and answer must be something truly secret even if you must make up a nonsense answer. Too many people know the name of your first school or the name of your pet!





Never tell anybody, even your best friend, what your password is. Friends don't last forever. Todays "friend" can be tomorrows enemy!





Never type your password when someone is looking over your shoulder. Would you enter your PIN # into an ATM with somebody watching?





And never write your password down and use a "Stick-It" to attach it on your monitor. Don't laugh, people do this all the time!





Use different passwords for each service you use. Your password to start your computer must be different from your Hotmail password which should be different from your Yahoo password etc. And change them all every few months.





If you follow these few steps , your personal e mail will remain just that...personal.
Reply:simply you have to create you password as a combination of words and number and at least 8 characters because it make is a little bit difficult for crack software and its Alg.

Reply:Report your friend to the authorities because that is against the law. He can get arrested or fined.
Reply:The chances your friend is using a hacking program to get into your account is pretty slim..Yahoo would notice the activity after several failed log in attempts and would lock out your account for a while for your protection.If you use the Fire Fox browser, go to Tools, Then options, Then click on the security button and uncheck "Remember passwords for sites." For the Explorer browser,Click Tools,General,and then click on "Delete Browsing History"This keeps Explorer from saving your passwords when you log out. This may solve your problem.There is also the chance your friend is using a Key logger on your machine to spy on everything you type.Your anti-virus program should catch this..The key logger is most likely in your system 32 folder.So check your browsers to make sure they are not saving your passwords for your friend to read,run a virus check and then change your passwords.Hope this works.
Reply:1) Don't let your friend use your computer. If you MUST let him use it.. .create a seperate login for him that does NOT have administrative rights.. only guest access and he will not be able to install programs like that or access your stuff...


Set your account to not share files with the other account to protect your documents.

1a) Set or Change your windows login password to something good (at least 8 chars with Uppercase, lowercase, numbers AND special characters %26amp;%%%26amp;$#)





1b) Change all of your account passwords to something equally as good but not the same as your login.





2) Set a BIOS password on the computer if you don't want him on it at all.





3) Look in the add/remove programs for suspicious programs that can crack passwords like l0phtcrack, cain and abel, ophcrack, passware, etc.. remove them





4) Turn off remote access to your computer:


Right-click My Computer %26gt; Properties %26gt; Remote tab uncheck both


Right-click network icon %26gt;properties %26gt; uncheck file sharing





5) Obviously, if you want to report the abuse... you can report your friend to the authorities which would be a federal offense... so you'd call the FBI and you could also report the abuse to the account providers.





5a) If he did any monetary damage to you or others this could result in civil or small claims action too.





6) Enable loggin on your system so you know what he's doing. Have the logs secured so he cannot access them.





7) Make sure your antivirus/firewall is from a reliable vendor like mcafee and keep it properly configured, automatically updating .. run a complete scan.. and make sure he does not have access to disable it.
